Gloucestershire is home ground for Cotswold Garden Designs. The studio sits in Sherborne, in the heart of the county's Cotswold uplands, and there is scarcely a corner of Gloucestershire — from the cathedral city of Gloucester to the wool towns and the Five Valleys — that is more than a comfortable drive away.
That makes garden design in Gloucestershire something the studio can do properly: visiting sites as often as a project needs, sourcing stone, timber and plants from suppliers and growers within the county, and designing gardens that feel as though they have always belonged to their setting.
One county, many kinds of garden
Few counties change character as quickly as this one, and good landscape design in Gloucestershire has to change with it.
Gloucester itself offers everything from Victorian terraces with long, narrow gardens to family homes in Longlevens, Hucclecote and the villages ringing the city. Every project is designed by Steve Andrews personally — a Pre-Registered Member of the Society of Garden Designers with over a decade in horticulture and design. Being a Gloucestershire garden designer in more than name shapes how the studio works:
Materials are chosen to sit naturally alongside Cotswold stone and the county's vernacular buildings. Planting is selected for the local climate and soils, from the thin brash of the high wolds to the richer ground of the Severn Vale. And wherever possible, the trades who build the gardens and the nurseries that grow the plants are local too — better for the county's economy, better for the environment, and noticeably better for the finished garden.

From first thought to finished garden
Most Gloucestershire projects begin with a pre-design consultation at your home: an hour walking the garden together, followed by a written report.
